Dumbarton 3 : 1 Alloa Athletic - Sons secure second season victory

Posted Sunday, September 28, 2014 by PA

Dumbarton stretched their unbeaten run in the Scottish Championship to four games with a comfortable 3-1 win against mid-table Alloa.

The hosts were gifted a deserved lead when some poor Alloa defending allowed Archie Campbell to tap in from close range after 38 minutes before the visitors went close to a leveller but Graeme Holmes blazed over from the edge of the box.

That miss proved costly and the Sons doubled their lead on 54 minutes when Jordan Kirpkpatrick was allowed a free header before the midfielder turned provider - his shot was fumbled by John Gibson and Colin Nish added a third from the follow-up.

The visiting fans were given something to cheer about in stoppage time when Stephen Simmons scored a stunning 18-yard volley but it was too little too late.
