JOSE MOURINHO has ordered Chelsea to hit the ground running in the Champions League this season.
FOCUS: Mourinho calls for Chelsea to perform in Europe
Leaders Chelsea are flying in the Premier so far this season with four wins out of four while star striker Diego Costa has already smashed in seven goals.
The Spain star scored a hat-trick on Saturday to sink Swansea.
Now Mourinho wants his players to be switched on from the start in Europe as well.
Chelsea host Schalke on Wednesday in their first group game.
The Blues suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Basle in their Champions League opener last season before recovering to reach the semi-finals.
Mourinho said: "If we slip up against Schalke but finish top of the group like we did last season, no problem for me.
"The point is to be focused.
"The group phase is not easy and normally, not always, to finish first is better than to finish second.
"So first objective is to finish second and after that try to finish first.
"But some big teams go out in group stage year after year and Chelsea did it two years ago so we have to make sure that doesn't happen.
"And to play at home the first match and lose is not the best way to start."
