Exeter City 1 : 1 Oxford United - Struggling Grecians hold U's

Exeter moved off the bottom of the League Two table after a spirited performance in their 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Oxford.
Exeter got off to the perfect start when Alex Nicholls was brought down inside the penalty box on four minutes by Oxford goalkeeper George Long. Graham Cummins stepped up to send Long the wrong way from the spot and score his first goal for the club, but the Grecians' lead did not last long.
Just 11 minutes later, Bolton Wanderers loanee Joe Riley was allowed to get forward and he crossed for Callum O'Dowda to sweep the ball home from close range.
Both teams had chances to go in front in a relatively even first half, but it was Exeter that looked more likely to grab the winning goal after half time.
Liam Sercombe was twice denied by Long, Alex Nicholls lashed a shot wide of the far post and Cummins volleyed another good chance high over the crossbar.
Oxford rarely got out of their own half in the second period and failed to test City goalkeeper Christy Pym, but the point keeps them just above second-from-bottom Exeter at the bottom of League Two.
