Diego Pablo Simeone will have one worry less to deal with when planning for the upcoming Madrid derby. The manager will not have to think about the man that he blamed for the defeat in Lisbon and the draw in the first-leg game of the Spanish Supercup - Ángel di María, a player he both admires and fears.
After the game at the Bernabéu last August, Simeone bumped into 'El Fideo' inside the Bernabéu. Affectionately, the Atléti manager said to him, "You b*****d, you messed up my game! It was all under control until you came on! Just like in Lisbon! Just as well he only put you on for 10 minutesÂ…". Kind words said to the player after what was to be his last game wearing the Real Madrid shirt.
The Real player was living his last hours as a 'Blanco'. Simeone suggested jokingly that maybe he wasn't welcome there and that he'd receive him with open armsÂ… One of many moments in which 'El Cholo' has shown his admiration and affection to his fellow countryman. After Di María had expressed his thanks for such kind words, the Atlético manager then went into his press conference where he praised the player once again.
"In the second half, with Di María coming on, Real Madrid played better. Logical, because he's the best player of them all. With him, our team started to break down and he made things difficult for us in defence", Simeone declared, with a mixture of despair and admiration.
