Alloa Athletic vs Raith Rovers preview - Duo back for Alloa
Posted Friday, August 15, 2014 by PA
Alloa start their home games in the Championship with a visit from Raith Rovers and manager Barry Smith has defenders Jonathan Tiffoney and Mark Docherty available after suspension.
The attack-minded David Weatherston and Eddie Ferns have returned to training, however a lack of match practice will see them miss out.
Smith said: "We played well at Queen of the South, but we gave goals away and never took our chances. That is a dangerous combination and we lost 2-0.
"If we can improve in these two areas then we can get something from this game. Raith have good strikers, however we have players that can hurt them."
Raith will again be without injured defenders Dougie Hill (groin) and Craig Barr (knee), though Calum Elliot has a chance of playing, despite picking up a knock in their 3-1 success over Dumbarton last weekend.
Manager Grant Murray knows his men that they will need to be wary of the Wasps.
"Alloa are at home and they will see this as a crucial game to win. We managed to get a goal in front in our game last weekend, however before that Dumbarton had chances.
"Alloa lost to Queen of the South in similar circumstances and that shows how crucial the opening goal can be."
