Dumbarton vs Queen of South preview - Ewings out for Sons
Posted Friday, August 15, 2014 by PA
Dumbarton are missing goalkeeper Jamie Ewings with an Achilles injury as they look to open their Championship account against visitors Queen of the South.
Mark McLaughlin is over a thigh injury, however a lack of match practice may see him miss out
Manager Ian Murray said: "There was not much between the sides last season and I would imagine that this game will be the same. We can win it, however one thing we have to do is defend a lot better than we did in the second half at Raith last weekend.
"We gave away bad goals and we will be punished if we do that again."
Queen of the South midfielder Mark Kerr has returned to training after a hamstring injury, but he is unlikely to be risked due to a lack of recent game time.
Manager Jim McIntyre is again without the injured Chris Mitchell (back), Stephen McKenna (hip), Paul Burns (knee) and Michael Paton (groin) as his side look to build on last Saturday's 2-0 success over Alloa.
McIntyre said: "It would be terrific to make it two wins out of two, but I am looking for an increased level of performance.
"We can play a lot better especially defensively as we gave Alloa a lot of encouragement to attack us."
