LOUIS VAN GAAL is closing in on deals for Roma star Nigel de Jong and Feyenoord centre back Stefan de Vrij.
READY TO SPLASH THE CASH: Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal
United hope they can snap up De Vrij in the coming weeks, having secured deals for Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera last week.
United are looking to replace long serving defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand and believe £7m will be enough to secure a deal for the 22-year-old, including add-ons.
Van Gaal is also interested in signing midfielder De Jong, who is expected to be out for two to four weeks after a scan confirmed he had suffered a tear to his groin muscle.
Starsport has been told that the former Manchester City midfielder is a potential target at £10m.
The 29-year-old is part of Van Gaal’s Dutch squad in Brazil and United are in the market for a holding midfielder.
Jackson Martinez will keep Arsenal and Manchester United waiting until after the World Cup before deciding on a potential move to the Premier League.
The representatives of the Porto and Colombia star have held talks with a host of European clubs including Arsenal and United.
Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Roma are also understood to have held discussions over a deal for Martinez.
Van Gaal will have to pay a combined £80m if he wants to bring Chile pair Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez to United this summer.
United are in pole position to land Juventus star Arturo Vidal after the Chilean admitted he'd rather move to Old Trafford than anywhere else.
Chelsea and Arsenal are also keen on the 27-year-old, who would cost around £48m.
