ENGLAND’S World Cup losers could be called up to star in a Hollywood remake of 1980s classic Escape to Victory.

FLOPS: The England side that crashed out of the World Cup could be set for the Hollywood stars

The original featured top players, including late England 1966 skipper Bobby Moore and Brazil legend Pele, 73, who acted alongside Sylvester Stallone, 67, and Michael Caine, 81, in the football flick.

And if Roy Hodgson’s players are looking for a career change after their shameful summer this could be the move for them.

Director Doug Liman is revamping the movie for Warner Bros and if it is anything like the 1981 version a flock of top current players will be on his radar.

The World War Two drama saw German authorities set up a match against a group of prisoners of war.

The Allied team use the match as a cover for an escape plot. Players-turned-actors Eric Cantona, 48, and Vinnie Jones, 49, are expected to get calls about appearing.

David Beckham, 39, would certainly boost the film’s coffers if he were to be given a role but he has only previously played one person – himself.

That may pave the way for Three Lions let-downs looking for a fresh start after completing England’s worst World Cup campaign since 1958.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, 28, might fancy having a pop at acting, while Frank Lampard, 36, could also take a part in the movie – which will be named Victory – as he nears the end of his playing career.
