NEW Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that Barcelona tried to block his move to Stamford Bridge.
I ALMOST DIDN'T LEAVE: Cesc Fabregas has revealed that Barcelona tried to block his move to Chelsea
Fabregas completed a sensational move to Chelsea from Barca last Thursday after the Blues shelled out £30m to secure the Spaniard's services.
The former Arsenal man signed a five-year-deal at Stamford Bridge after the Gunners turned down the opportunity to re-sign him.
Fabregas, 27, was desperate to leave his boy-hood team after club officials and new manager Luis Enrique told the Spain midfielder that he was surplus to requirements.
But Fabregas has revealed that his move away from the Nou Camp nearly didn't happen because club president Josep Maria Bartomeu tried to block his sale.
He said: "I asked Barcelona to find a way for me to leave the club.
DETERMINED: Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu tried to block his move to Stamford Bridge
"The president tried to stop the sale, but I already had my mind made up.
"At the time, I spoke with [sporting director] Andoni Zubizarreta and the president and I told them I wanted to leave.
"Honestly, it all went really smoothly. I'm not leaving for any specific reason, if not for a multitude of different things, my own errors and that’s it.
"If I didn't think that I'd be happy at Chelsea, I would've never made this decision. Above all, I want to be happy both professionally and personally.
"[Chelsea have] great players - young and talented - and building a great team with new signings. I have no doubt I'll be happy, I lived in London for eight years, I have friends [and] family there."
