There was at least one survival guide, a medic, a translator and a five-strong production crew.

Viewers were also convinced they had spotted a security guard and a stylist in the background.

Marc McElroy tweeted: “I hope he’ll be okay with just the support crew, medics, film crew and billions of dollars.”

While Ryan Aitken wrote: “I wonder what size the crew is? I’m counting 4, 5, 6, 7…”

Henry Waghorn added: “He’s hardly David Livingstone. He’s brought everyone along apart from Posh.”

And Dunc mocked: “Into the ‘unknown’, I don’t think so!!!”

The BBC confirmed there was an executive producer, a producer, two camera operators and a sound expert.

It added that a medic and a translator were also in the Amazon for “health and safety reasons”.

Beckham’s spokesman said there was a production crew and an Amazon guide.
