Alloa Athletic vs Greenock Morton preview - Riordan back for Alloa

Posted Friday, April 11, 2014 by PA

Alloa host rock-bottom Morton with former Hibs, Celtic and Scotland striker Derek Riordan available for the first time in two months after an ankle problem.

Stephen Simmons will be given a lunchtime fitness test to determine if he can play after a knock while Jason Marr drops out after aggravating a thigh injury as the Wasps look for the win that will take them closer to safety.

Manager Barry Smith said: "Morton are playing with a lot of freedom just now and that has led to better results. However, how well we do will be determined by how well we play and not our opponents."

Morton, who still have the slimmest of chances of avoiding relegation, have added Marc Fitzpatrick (ankle), Garry O'Connor (Achilles) and Jack Smith (knee) to an injury list that already includes Ben Sampayo (knee), Reece Hands (groin) and David O'Brien (hamstring).

Cappielow manager Kenny Shiels said: "We have playing well for a few games and it was good to see that bear fruit with wins over Dumbarton and Livingston. It is a case of wanting more of the same against Alloa.

"We are not looking any further forward than this game and saying this or that could happen. We will give this one everything and see where we end up."
