Dumbarton 0 : 1 Dundee - MacDonald seals narrow Dee win

Posted Sunday, March 23, 2014 by PA

Dundee goalkeeper Kyle Letheren saved a late penalty to maintain their single-point lead at the top of the Scottish Championship with a 1-0 win at Dumbarton.

Christopher Kane was brought down inside the area but, after brushing himself down, the striker saw his weak effort easily saved by Letheren.

Dundee had taken the lead just moments before that crucial miss when Sons keeper Stephen Grindlay made a mess of a clearance and substitute Peter MacDonald was on hand to slam the ball home from a tight angle.

Dumbarton's Chris Turner, Jordan Kirkpatrick and Mitchel Megginson all forced decent saves from Letheren during an entertaining first half but, in the end, MacDonald's 15th strike of the season proved the difference for the leaders.
