MANCHESTER UNITED are pushing ahead with plans to play in a big pre-season tournament in the USA against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool - even though they may have to pull out and play in the Europa League.
David Moyes' men are pencilled in for a blockbuster summer competition with some of Europe's biggest clubs
Details of the International Champions Cup were unveiled yesterday, with Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Olympiacos and Real Madrid the other teams involved.
The eight teams will be split into two leagues, with the winners of each group taking part in the final at the Sun Life Stadium - home of NFL franchise the Miami Dolphins - on August 4.
But the tournament begins on July 26 so United and Liverpool’s involvement could be in jeopardy.
At the moment only the fifth-placed Premier League team qualifies for the Europa League.
But if Manchester City win the Capital One Cup next month, the sixth-placed team in the league will also qualify for the Europa League, and if the FA Cup winners finish in the top four, then the team that ends seventh will also qualify - going into qualifying round which is in the middle of the American tournament.
