Bale looks to kick-start the New Year the same way he did in 2013

Right now, Gareth Bale would sign off on starting 2014 at Real Madrid in the same way he kicked off 2013 at Tottenham. Back then, the Welshman notched up 14 goals in his first 20 matches of the year. He made his mark in every competition. He scored eight goals in the Premier League, three in two Europa League ties against Lyon and Inter, one in the FA Cup against Coventry and two for Wales.

He is now looking forward to starting 2014, leaving the injuries that plagued him towards the end of the year firmly in the past, particularly the knock that ruled him out of Real’s last games of the year and still sees him sidelined.

The Welshman was still unable to train with the rest of the squad yesterday, although he did exercise on the pitch. Despite his injury setbacks, Bale has proven to have a keen appetite for goals during the games he did manage to play for Real. He played 15 games for 'Los Blancos', notching up nine goals and seven assists in the process. Not a bad return.
