Puyol watches the game from the stands

Carles Puyol was one of the players left out by Tata Martino for the Champions League match in Milan on Tuesday - a surprising decision after the club captain had come through 90 minutes at Osasuna on Saturday. Although there was speculation that he would not start, Puyol would have expected at least a place on the bench in Italy.
However, Puyol already knew his fate before he travelled with the team and had already explained what awaited him to his friend Demetrio Albertini, who then accidently leaked the news to Italian journalists.
Martino's plan is understandably to bring the defender back slowly after his seven-month absence through injury. The other players left out of the Barca side were goalkeeper Oier, Sergi Roberto and Jonathan Dos Santos.
