It's D-Day for Mexico's boss Jose Manuel "El Chepo" de la Torre

Mexican soccer chiefs will gather later today to decide the fate of El Tri coach Jose Manuel “Chepo” de la Torre.

The meeting was called in the aftermath of Wednesday’s 2-1 loss against Panama in the semifinal of the Gold Cup, which capped-off a hugely disappointing summer for Mexico, following a poor Confederations Cup showing and a stuttering World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Liga MX owners will get together with Mexican federation (FMF) officials like president Justin Compean and the director of national teams Hector Gonzalez Inarritu in a secret location to decide on the future of Chepo, who was named Mexico boss in October 2010.

De la Torre’s first two full years in charge of the national team went extremely well, with Mexico picking up the Gold Cup in 2011 and flying through the first stage of CONCACAF qualifying last year.

However, 2013 has seen Mexico hit a rut, winning just five of 17 games and drawing key home World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica, the United States and Costa Rica.

If the decision-makers believe Chepo is now not the person to lift the team out of the difficult spot, names such as Luis Fernando Tena, Miguel Herrera, Victor Manuel Vucetich, Tomas Boy, Marcelo Bielsa and even Guus Hiddink have been mentioned as potential replacements.
