Defoe enjoying Tottenham pre-season boost

Tottenham's Jermain Defoe hopes to carry his pre-season form into the new Premier League campaign.
Bagging 11 goals last season, Defoe has gotten off to a commendable start in Tottenham's preparations for the new campaign by scoring a hat-trick in the team's recent mauling of South China in the Barclays Asia Trophy.
The England international told Spurs TV that it felt good to have found his scoring boots in pre-season and he believed more goals would be on the horizon.
"In my experience, over the years, when you’re scoring goals they just keep coming, and when you’ve had a good pre-season, you’re scoring goals that lead you into the start of the season," Defoe explained.
"I want to get off to a good start and it’s important in pre-season games that not only me but all the lads feel fit and sharp. It’s important to have that confidence going into the games, you get the chances, you don’t even think about it, you believe that you’re going to score and when you’ve got that belief, good things happen."
Despite some dismissing pre-season tournaments like the Barclays Asia Trophy to be no more than means for Premier League sides to earn extra cash, Defoe considered such fixtures to be a vital part of a club's preparation for the new campaign.
"You want to come here and you want to win games," he stated.
"It doesn’t matter if it’s pre-season. It’s important to get that winning mentality going into the season, and getting that spirit in the dressing room."
