Klopp demands Dortmund improvement

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp admitted there were many areas of his side's performance he was not pleased with in Saturday's 3-3 Bundesliga draw with Wolfsburg.

Although it was Dortmund who took the lead at the Volkswagen Arena after just five minutes when Sven Bender opened the scoring, former player Ivan Perisic came back to haunt them as he netted two goals in nine minutes to overturn the deficit, before Wolfsburg extended their lead in the 26th minute through a Naldo strike.

That lasted all the way till the 84th minute but just when it looked like the Wolves were going to claim all three points, Marco Reus pulled one back before grabbing another four minutes later to steal a share of the spoils for the outgoing Bundesliga champions.

While their league title has already been relinquished to Bayern Munich, they are still in the running to win the UEFA Champions League with a meeting against their rivals to come on May 25, and Klopp is aware they need to improve from Saturday's display.

"My team have done many things of late," he said. "But unfortunately we missed the chance to zip the bag.

"We got away with a black eye.

"We started very well, then diminished at an equal rate. We soon fell behind by a clear margin and began to look vulnerable.

"We caused ourselves problems which we could have avoided if we played better football, and I saw a lot of negative things that we shouldn't have done."

Dortmund are assured of a runners-up finish in the Bundesliga this season as there is no way third-placed Bayer Leverkusen can close the four-point gap with one game remaining.
