The Magpies must beat the Portuguese side by at least two clear goals to progress in the Europa League - a feat only achieved by the Catalan giants so far this season
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has accepted his side must be at their very best if they are to beat Benfica by at least two clear goals on Thursday evening.
The Magpies go into the Europa League quarter-final second-leg clash at St James' Park 3-1 down on aggregate after being outplayed in Portugal last week.
And the Englishman is under no illusions as to the size of the task, with Barcelona the only team to have achieved such a victory against the Portuguese outfit this term.
Pardew told repoters: "There’s only one team which has beaten them by two clear goals, and that’s Barcelona.
"That’s the size of the task, so we are under no illusions there. This is a Champions League team, really.
"That’s the quality we are up against. We have to approach the game in the right manner and try to get to the end of the game in a position where we can get it back."
