However, the 21-year-old now appears certain to get his dream switch away, after Tottenham, Zenit and a third unknown side lodged bids with the club.
The news was leaked to a French newspaper by Rennes director Pierre Dreossi, who later went public and admitted that a conclusion to the long-running M'Vila saga is expected shortly.
'I think that it can be settled by the end of this week or the start of next,' Dreossi told the French media.
'But it is complicated because some clubs are not agreed within their clubs about the deal and there are clubs where Yann does not want to go.'
Dreossi went on to hint that Arsenal may well be the anonymous third bidder.
'Arsenal? Maybe, you would have to ask Arsene Wenger,' he smiled.
'But with Song leaving, it means that Arsenal are going to reinforce that position.'
Dreossi added that M'Vila won't be sold for less than £17million.
