Snubbed ... hero David Beckham
SIR Paul McCartney has branded Team GB football chiefs “idiots” for leaving David Beckham out of our Olympic team.
The ex-Beatle, 70, who will sing at the Games’ opening ceremony, spoke out amid last-gasp calls for Becks - who has been snubbed by Team GB soccer boss Stuart Pearce - to be picked.
Beatles legend Macca blasted: “He’s a national hero. I would’ve thought Beckham would be first choice because of his huge contribution to getting the Olympics.
"But some idiot decided otherwise.
“I feel a bit sorry for the three over-23s because we’re going to be looking at them and saying, ‘That should’ve been Beckham.’
"He’s a national hero, a crowd-puller.”
LA Galaxy star Becks, who played a vital role in Lord Coe’s team that won the Games for Britain, was desperate to skipper Team GB.
But amid last-ditch pleas for him to be picked, he revealed last night he would play only a “small part” in Friday’s Olympic opening ceremony in Stratford, East London.
