AC Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini has moved quickly to quell the frustrations of the club's fans after Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva departed for Paris Saint-Germain.

In an attempt to pacify critical opinions of the team, Ambrosini has insisted that the Rossoneri will remain competitive even without the two key players.

"Milan might be in a state of transition, but we are still great," the 35-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

"I might not know what will happen next, but each year changes have to be made because we players aren't eternal beings.

"It's not only Milan who have to make inevitable shifts. You might even look at Barcelona, or at Manchester United. Do you think even they will be spared from eventual change?"

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani is also aware of the need to revamp the team, declaring his desire to make a high-profile signing to plug the hole left by the departure of the star duo.
