Supporter ... Ashley Cole at court
JOHN Terry should never have been prosecuted for racist abuse, Ashley Cole told a court yesterday.
The Chelsea full-back said he felt in “conflict”, as the club’s captain and the alleged target Anton Ferdinand are both his friends.
Terry is accused of calling the QPR defender a “f****** black ****” in a Premier League match but claims he only sarcastically repeated the slur Ferdinand mistakenly thought he had used.
And fellow England star Cole, 31, told Westminster magistrates: “It was handbags. We should not be sitting here.”
He told how he saw Ferdinand, 27, make a fist gesture implying sex to his team-mate.
The QPR star admits taunting Terry for “shagging a team mate’s missus” — referring to a fling with Wayne Bridge’s then partner Vanessa Perroncel.
