HORROR BLOW ... Bacary Sagna howls out in pain after breaking his leg
BACARY SAGNA suffered an horrific leg break for the SECOND time this season.
The Arsenal defender was injured as his side could draw only 3-3 with Norwich.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said: “Sagna has a broken fibula. It is the same leg he fractured earlier in the season.”
Now the France international is set to undergo an operation on his broken right fibula and will miss Euro 2012 where he was due to face England.
Sagna collapsed in agony after 32 minutes at the Emirates as he failed to control the ball with no player near him.
Wenger said he had been injured just before in a challenge by a Norwich player — though the Arsenal chief didn’t remember who it was.
The player was Bradley Johnson and it happened in the challenge pictured above, though Wenger stopped short of accusing the Norwich player of deliberately kicking Sagna.
Wenger said: “He was kicked on it. It has not happened alone, he has been kicked and when he was kicked he broke the leg.
“We do not know how long he will be out for. He played on after he caught him. It happened just before he went down, I don’t know exactly and have to see it on the TV. The guy closed him down and ‘walked’ on him. I don’t know if it was deliberate, I have to look at it again.”
Gutted Sagna was out for almost four months after breaking his fibula against Tottenham in October.
He came back to face Aston Villa on January 29 but suffered more heartbreak yesterday.
An Arsenal statement said: “The fracture sustained on Saturday is a different injury and is higher in Bacary’s fibula than the original injury.”
The news heaped more misery on Arsenal fans who watched their team drop two priceless points in the race for a Champions League spot.
Wenger conceded that a top four spot — let alone third place — is no longer in Arsenal’s hands.
Both Newcastle and Spurs can go above third-placed Arsenal if they beat Manchester City and Aston Villa respectively this afternoon.
The Frenchman added: “We knew that if we didn’t win today, that it would not be in our hands.”
