Ross County 1 - 1 Ayr Utd. - Staggies suffer setback
Posted Saturday, February 18, 2012 by PA
Ross County's march to the Scottish First Division title was halted further by a 1-1 draw against a spirited Ayr side.
The match looked to be going according to plan as league leaders County took the lead in the seventh minute - Grant Munro punting Scott Boyd's headed pass into the corner.
But bottom club Ayr are unbeaten in three league matches and Mark Roberts soon stung the palms of Michael Fraser with a long-range drive.
County were still dominating however, with only a stunning Kevin Cuthbert save denying Michael Gardyne's left-footed drive from finding the top corner.
Their wastefulness was punished as Liam Tomsett unleashed an unstoppable 30-yard piledriver past Fraser for Ayr's equaliser.
Jonathan Tiffoney's red card set up a frantic finale but the Staggies were left frustrated for a third league match running.
