Brechin City 1 : 1 Airdrie United - Brechin grind out a draw
Posted Saturday, February 11, 2012 by PA
Ten-man Brechin held on in the final stages to earn a 1-1 draw with Airdrie.
Airdrie started the brighter and should have gone ahead in the third minute, but Sean Lynch dragged his close-range shot wide.
But it was Brechin's top scorer that broke the deadlock as Paul McManus slotted home his 12th goal of the campaign from six yards.
Airdrie pushed for the equaliser after the break and Jamie Stevenson should have done better than strike straight at Craig Nelson from the angle.
The visitors got their reward in the 72nd minute as Stevenson's cross found Derek Holmes at the near post to head low past Nelson.
Craig Molloy was soon dismissed for a second yellow card but Airdrie could not convert their pressure into goals as they had to settle with a point.
