Dumbarton 1 - 0 Brechin City - Prunty puts Sons beyond Brechin
Posted Saturday, January 14, 2012 by PA
Bryan Prunty's late strike handed Dumbarton a 1-0 victory which saw them leapfrog Brechin in the table.
The striker pounced to ram home the rebound from Scott Agnew's saved penalty with just a minute left to play.
Striker Paul McManus went close for the visitors inside the opening 10 minutes but his powerful right-footed effort struck a post.
The Sons responded positively to give themselves a foothold in the game, with Agnew narrowly firing over from 25 yards.
There was still time before the break for Ally Graham to hit the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box.
It looked to be heading for a draw until Bryan Hodge brought down Agnew in the box and, although Craig Nelson palmed away the midfielder's spot-kick, Prunty was on hand to rifle in the winner from 12 yards.
