MANCHESTER United ace Wayne Rooney caused a frenzy online when he gave his £30,000 new thatch its first airing on Twitter.
Thousands of fans rushed to his social networking page when word got out he had posted a snap of his bloodied and bruised scalp in June.
A month later the Beckhams also chose to introduce their newborn baby daughter Harper to the world via Facebook.
The world of social media allows celebrities to by-pass publicists and interact with fans directly.
