Bayer Leverkusen beats Augsburg 4-1

BERLIN (AP)—Sidney Sam scored twice as Bayer Leverkusen beat promoted Augsburg 4-1 to move provisionally top of the Bundesliga on Friday.
Sam replied for Leverkusen one minute after Japan midfielder Hajime Hosogai opened the scoring for Augsburg in the fifth minute.
Stefan Kiessling, who set up Sam’s first goal, put Leverkusen ahead in the 23rd before Sam put the issue beyond doubt in the 72nd.
Eren Derdiyok’s goal in the 79th gave the scoreline a flattering look, tucking away a rebound after the ball fell kindly for the substitute from Simon Jentzsch’s save.
Leverkusen—which opens its Champions League campaign at Chelsea on Tuesday — looked tired, with several of its players having been involved in internationals in midweek.
