Sporting gesture: Bendtner is in Lisbon negotiating his move
The big Dane is currently tying up personal terms with the Premeira Liga giants after the Gunners finally accepted an undisclosed offer.
Bendtner was left out of Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia, as well as the recent friendly in Cologne, and was snapped on Thursday in the upmarket district of Estoril, Lisbon.
Arsene Wenger confirmed the forward and team-mate Manuel Almunia had been given time off to sort out their futures.
'Both of them are possible departures,' Wenger said.
'They are talking to other clubs at the moment. I cannot tell you which ones.'
Now, after weeks of speculation, Sporting look to have finally won the race for the 23-year-old striker, who has also been strongly linked with Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg, and Benfica.
Bendtner made 156 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 45 goals, but with first-team places limited at the
Emirates the confident forward signalled his intentions to leave this summer in search of more regular game time.
Arsenal were believed to be holding out for a £12million fee, although a figure closer to £9m has reportedly been agreed.
