Liverpool’s new signing Jordan Henderson says he is not worried about burnout as he prepares for the European Under-21 Championships ahead of his debut season at Anfield.

Henderson played 40 games last season for Sunderland and unlike Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll he is set to play a key part this summer for the England U21s but says he will be ready for next season.

"I know there are managers and players worried about burnout and playing too much, but I feel fine after the season," Henderson told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Yes, I've played a lot, but I've still got lots to give, still got energy. We are young and want to play football and can achieve something special for our country."

Despite heading to Denmark without the likes of Wilshere and Carroll, Henderson insists the tournament is an important part of his development.

“Denmark is really important for the experience of playing at tournament level - it is something we have to get used to if we're going to win a World Cup or a Euro with the seniors," he added.

"What the German U21 team did last time is an inspiration. Six of their team ended up in the World Cup squad and doing very well at the tournament. Everyone wants to produce good players. We have loads of talent who could come through to the seniors.

"At U21 level, we feel there is a process whereby you can get passed through the ranks. If you do well, [England manager] Fabio Capello will notice - or Stuart Pearce will tell him.

“He goes to a lot of the games to watch us and that is important to all the players who play in the U21s."
