ROME (AP)—Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti plans to take a season-long sabbatical before he coaches again.

“Besides a gap of six months, I’ve been coaching straight through since ’95,” Ancelotti told Turin daily La Stampa on Monday. “I’m going to stop for a year, look around, update myself and study how colleagues operate.”

Ancelotti was fired last month after his second season at Stamford Bridge ended without a trophy.

The Italian has been linked to various openings in England and Italy, notably Roma, but he says he hasn’t been contacted by any English clubs nor Roma, although he still maintains he will coach Roma eventually.

“One day I will coach Roma,” Ancelotti said. “I’ve always said that and I’m repeating it now, but it’s early yet.”

Ancelotti is a former Roma and AC Milan player and coached Milan to two Champions League trophies before moving to Chelsea.
