Sociedad signs Valenciennes coach Montanier

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain (AP)—Real Sociedad has hired Valenciennes coach Philippe Montanier to lead the Spanish league club for the next two seasons.

The 47-year-old Frenchman replaces Martin Lasarte, who was fired after guiding the Basque club to a 15th-place finish and just avoiding relegation only in the last round of games.

Montanier is coming off a 12th-place finish with French club Valenciennes after his second year in charge. Assistant coach Michel Troin will join Montanier, also.
