Parma vs Bari preview - Marino: I expect to win
Posted Sunday, April 03, 2011 by PA
Parma coach Pasquale Marino will be forced to make wholesale changes to the side that won 1-0 at Sampdoria in the last round when they host bottom side Bari.
Parma head into the encounter at the Ennio Tardini stadium having to do without Daniele Galloppa, Blerim Dzemaili, Francesco Valiani and Sebastian Giovinco, who are all suspended.
Marino nevertheless expects his team to show the same determination against Bari that earned them three points at Samp.
That win moved Parma above Sampdoria and four points clear of the drop zone with eight games remaining.
"We need to give continuity to our results," Marino said. "We played a good game at Samp and I expect another win against Bari.
"We need to grind out more results in order to defend our Serie A status."
Parma sit in 14th place on 32 points after 30 matches.
Fortunately for Parma, they face a Bari side that looks certain for the drop.
The Galletti have clinched just three points since their last victory on January 6.
Bortolo Mutti's side trails 12 points behind safety.
Despite their precarious position in the standings, Bari coach Bortolo Mutti is not ready to throw the towel just yet.
"We cannot give up," said Mutti. "There are still 24 points up for grabs and we have to continue to fight to avoid the drop.
"We have a difficult game at Parma on Sunday and we must focus all our energy on bringing home three points."
Bari must make a drastic improvement if they are to have any chance of defending their Serie A status this season.
Lack of goalscoring has been Bari's main problem this term.
They have the worst attacking line in the competition with just 17 goals scored in 30 games.
