Last-gasp Morton thwarts Dumbarton
Posted Saturday, February 12, 2011 by PA
Scott Morton's injury time strike was enough to earn Airdrie a 1-1 draw and deny Dumbarton a valuable win in their relegation battle.
Dumbarton started brightly and went in front after just four minutes through Jon McShane's left-foot drive from 12 yards out.
Patrick Walker almost added a second for the home side in the 26th minute but his overhead kick from 12 yards was well saved by Airdrie keeper Mark Ridgers.
Paul Nugent and McShane then wasted further chances to add to the scoreline before Morton popped up in the first minute of injury time to earn his side a point by firing a low drive past Dumbarton keeper Stephen Grindley into the bottom right-hand corner.
