Fourth seed Garbine Muguruza eased into the semi-finals at the Western & Southern Open with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over qualifier Timea Babos on Friday (19th August).

Their last two battles had gone to three sets, but this time Garbine Muguruza was unwavering against Timea Babos, beating the Hungarian 6-4, 6-3 to reach the last four at the Western & Southern Open.

Babos, ranked 41 in the world, is one of the tour's most improved players and had produced an upset in the previous round by defeating eight seed Dominika Cibulkova, but Muguruza was rarely troubled on her way to victory.

After successfully neutralising Babos's powerful game, Muguruza is through to the semi-finals in Cincinnati for the first time.

Yet to drop a set all tournament, the French Open champion will next face Karolina Pliskova in the last four.
