Top seed John Isner beat US teenager Reilly Opelka 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2 to reach the final of the ATP Atlanta Open for the fourth year in a row on Saturday (6th August)

In what was billed as the tallest match ever played, 6'10" (208cm) John Isner got the better of 6'11" (211cm) Reilly Opelka in the second semi-final of the ATP Atlanta Open on Saturday.

18-year-old Opelka is a rookie on the ATP Tour.

He won his first three matches here in Atlanta, including a victory over world number 28 Kevin Anderson.

Up against the world number 17, Isner, Opelka did not wilt under the pressure.

Facing a set-point, he hit a well placed serve and followed it up with a huge forehand.

He went on to hold the game to take the first set in the tie-break.

In the breaker, he took the first set after a stunning service return.

The biggest upset of the week appeared to be on the cards.

Isner had to lift his game which he did in the third game of the second set.

A forehand pass after a rare exchange at the net gave Isner the break and a 2-1 lead.

The 31-year-old held on to that break and took the set 6-4.

His dreams of winning a fourth successive Atlanta title were back on track.

Predictably, in the first ATP tournament of his career, Opelka ran out of steam in the decider.

Isner cruised through the final set 6-2, and it was a relieved number one seed who thanked the fans after an exciting second semi-final.

Isner will face number two seed Nick Kyrgios in the final.
