Simona Halep moved into the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup with a three set win over Svetlana Kuznetsova on Friday (29th July).

Simona Halep met Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, with a place in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal at stake.

But Halep was not at the races in the opening set of her quarter-final against Kuznetsova.

Capitalising on Halep's early struggles, it was Kuznetsov who dominated the early exchanges before going on to take the opening set, 6-3.

But fifth seeded Halep hit back in the second, turning the tables on her opponent as she raced to a 4-0 lead in the second set before taking it 6-1.

And her resurgence continued in the third set, once again going 4-0 up, eventually winning 12 of the last 14 games to thrash Kuznetsova 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to move through in style to the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup.

Its her 8th straight win and puts her into last four for the second year in a row., as she chasies her first Rogers Cup title

She will face the winner of the Angelique Kerber - Daria Kasatkina match.
