Marcos Baghdatis reached the quarter-finals of the Aegon Open in Nottingham after a 1-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory over Sam Querrey on Wednesday (22nd June).
Pablo Cuevas beat home favourite Daniel Evans 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of the Aegon Open in Nottingham on Wednesday (22nd June).
Following first round byes, both Sam Querrey and Marcos Baghdatis enjoyed comfortable straight-sets victories in the second round.
And Querrey soon found top gear in round three against his Cypriot opponent.
He broke Baghdatis' first service game as he dominated the first set, taking it 6-1.
However, the second proved to be a entirely different story, with every point keenly contested by the two.
Baghdatis battled his way back, edging it 10-8 in the tie-break to force a decisive third set.
And the ninth seed kept that momentum going.
The pivotal moment coming in the ninth game when Baghdatis broke the fifth seed's serve to go 5-4 up.
He then duly closed out the set and the match to progress.
Meanwhile, British number four Dan Evans was hoping to conitnue his Nottingham form against Pablo Cuevas.
And the early omens were certainly positive for Evans who managed to secure the first set following a tie-break.
However, his Uruguyan opponent managed to scrap his way back into contention and following another tie-break he ensured the match would go to a third.
Cuevas found the decisive break in third as he secured the match 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
He will now meet Baghdatis in the quarter-finals.
