South Africa captain Adriaan Strauss said on Friday (17th June) he took last week's defeat to 14-man Ireland "very personally" and ahead of the second Test in Johannesburg on Saturday (18th June) added, "we dealt with the issues that there was and we fixed a couple of things".

"It wasn't an ideal start, definitely a massive honour to be captain, but I take the loss very personally. It was not a good start for us for this season and for the campaign. But we get another chance this weekend. We need to be better, we need to make better decisions and like I said for me it was very personal and you know we want to do better this weekend, tomorrow."

"I think we had a very good weeks preparation, we dealt with the issues that there was and we fixed a couple of things and we put a couple of things in place."

"Look we've got good decision-makers on the field and tactically it is usually your 9, 10 or say your 15, or whoever, that can dictate a game. We have got great decision makers in those areas and I trust them and I know they will make the right decisions at the right time. Yes, like you said, last week I think we saw the space and maybe we chased a bit of fools gold there and the Irish gave us opportunities out wide and we just shifted it there. We definitely learned from that and, like I said, I back our decision makers on the field."
