Philipp Kohlschreiber advanced to the quarter-finals of the Mercedes Cup after defeating Denis Kudla in straight sets in Stuttgart on Wednesday (8th June).

Seventh seed Philipp Kohlschreiber took to the court to face Denis Kudla in the quarter-finals of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart- with a quarter-final place up for grabs

Kohlschreiber came into the match in fine form having lost just eight points on serve whilst cruising to a straight sets victory in his second round match against Pierre-Hugues Herber

However, the German faced much more resistance against Kudla who is ranked 56th in the world - 30 places below Kohlschreiber.

The American survived three match points before finally hitting the ball long on the fourth match point, Kohlschreiber sealing the victory after one hour and sixteen minutes of play, 7-5, 6-3.

In the last eight Kohlschreiber will face the winner of the second round contest between second seed Marin Cilic and Radek Stepanek.
