-
Reaction following Serena Williams's victory over Kiki Bertens in the French Open semi-finals on Friday (3rd June) - and from Garbine Muguruza following the Spaniard's win.
SOUNDBITE (English): Garbine Muguruza, defeated Samantha Stosur 6-2, 6-4:(Q. When you look back to Wimbledon last year, what did you learn from playing Serena in the final?)
"Well, like I said in Wimbledon before, I think finals, you know, the last match has to be the toughest match, obviously. I think the two best players for the tournament are there, so being in the final and playing against top seed, I think it's just a final. That's it."
SOUNDBITE (English): Serena Williams, defeated Kiki Bertens 7-6 (9-7), 6-4:(Q. Are you mentally or physically tired when you reach last game?)
"I think it's definitely both. You know, I feel like you have to be still mentally alive, and obviously you need to be physically alive and ready for everything."
SOUNDBITE (English): Serena Williams, defeated Kiki Bertens 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 (on facing Garbine Muguruza in the final):
"I don't think my mindset is any different (since beating Muguruza in Wimbledon final last year). Obviously I want to do well and I would like to win tomorrow. But, you know, I think Muguruza has been playing really well. She's been playing a really aggressive game and going for her shots. Regardless, I think it will be a good match. I mean, last time we played here in France she was able to win the match (second round of French Open in 2014). I learned so much from that match. You know, I hate to lose, but when I do, you know, I hope it was worth it. That match was definitely one of those that was kind of needed and worth it. So I look forward to, you know, hopefully learning from that."
