Agnieszka Radwanska and Simona Halep reacted to their surprise fourth round defeats at the French Open on Tuesday (31st May). Both players suggested that the tournament organisers were risking player injury by allowing their matches to continue in wet conditions, whilst Samantha Stosur reflected on her impressive victory over Halep.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Agnieszka Radwanska, lost to Tsvetana Pironkova 2-6, 6-3, 6-3
(on concerns that the court was too wet to play on):
"Yeah, well, also in the morning, like, the second set it was - we play pretty much in the rain. I don't know who allows us to play in those kind of conditions. I mean, I don't think they really care what we think. I think they care about other things, I guess. So, well, I'm just pissed (angry). I just cannot play in those conditions. I mean, I'm not healthy enough."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Samantha Stosur, beat Simona Halep 7-6, 6-3
(on making a slam quarter-final for the first time since the US Open in 2012):
"Yeah, it's really nice to be in the quarters again of a Slam. It has been a long time and there's been lots of ups and downs in those last three years, but like I said before, when you've had good results and you've been at the top of the game, you've got to believe you can do it again. It doesn't all just go away. But like I said, you've got to put it together. That's what I have been able to do so far this week. Yeah, it's a really nice feeling."
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Simona Halep, lost to Samantha Stosur 7-6, 6-3:
(on whether she asked the umpire to suspend the match because of the poor rain-affected court conditions):
"No, because I knew I have no chance to change anything. I think it was not a good idea to say something because you say without reasons. I mean no one cares about the players in my opinion. My opinion is that I don't care that I lost the match today, but I was close to get injured with my back, so that's a big problem. But like I said, no one cares. We have just to go and play."
