Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall on Friday (22nd April) spoke about his team's European Champions Cup semi-final against Wasps this weekend.
SOUNDBITE (English) Mark McCall, Saracens Director of Rugby (on getting to the semi-finals of the Champions Cup four seasons in a row):
"We're very proud by the fact we've got this far in the competition over the last four seasons. It's the hallmark of a really top, consistent club. We also understand semi-finals and cup competitions aren't easy to win. Clearly we've won four out of our five quarter-finals to get to the semi-final stages, so we're pretty good at knock-out games. We had one phenomenal win against Clermont a couple of seasons ago, and a couple of narrow defeats to Toulon and Clermont. We're looking forward to this game, we've got lots of experience in these kinds of games and the players are really confident and looking forward to tomorrow."
SOUNDBITE (English) Mark McCall, Saracens Director of Rugby: (on if it's hard to concentrate on the Champions Cup semi-finals and the league):
"The season we have over here in the northern hemisphere is a real slog, it's tough and you go through nine months to try to get through to these months. We've got something really tangible at stake. Thankfully in the last six years we've been in 19 of these kinds of games, quarter-finals, semi-finals or finals. It's our 20th tomorrow and hopefully that experience counts for something."
SOUNDBITE (English) Mark McCall, Saracens Director of Rugby (on having three English Premiership sides in the semi-finals):
"I think it's the first time in a while this has happened and whether that is a sign of things to come we'll only find out in due course. It has been great to see the English teams do so well. This Premiership season has seemed like the most demanding Premiership season of them all. All the teams are tough to play against so hopefully it's a good sign going forward."
