Warren Gatland left frustrated by the high penalty count, but ultimately pleased with his sides performance as they beat France 19-10 at the Principality Stadium on Friday
SOUNDBITE: (English) Warren Gatland, Wales coach (on the game)
"I said to the players after the game that I thought the most pleasing thing about it was defensively and the things we'd worked on in terms of shutting down their offloading game down worked out pretty well for us. And I thought that they (the players) trusted the system defensively and trusted each other which was - from the coaches point of view - very very pleasing."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Warren Gatland, Wales coach (on the high penalty count)
"It was frustrating. I think we'll have to have a look at that and the things that we need to improve on and just get perhaps some clarity as well on a few calls that we weren't quite sure on. Sometimes you've got to put up with that. One of the targets that we do have as a team normally is ten penalties or less is acceptable. We were nearly double that, I think it was 17 and that puts you under a bit of pressure too."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Sam Warburton, Wales captain (on what Wales did well)
"I'm pretty pleased that we didn't concede an open field try in defence, but we didn't want to give away another try in the last ten minutes like we did against Scotland and we did that again today so that's a little bit disappointing and it changed the scoreline quite a bit but I guess all in all, there were a few key moments. I think we were on our line around the 50 or 60 minute mark and we defended that pretty well and I think it would have been a different game had France gone over at that moment in the match. We would have had another 25 or 30 minutes and I think that they would have really kicked on to try and get a win but because we held them out until quite late in the game, I thought that was pretty good from our point of view."
