The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers, who will meet in Super Bowl 50, made their first public appearances at media day in San Jose on Monday (1st February) with quarterback Cam Newton and coach Ron Rivera on speaking duty.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers quarterback (on the team's success):
"I don't know, I just think it's a lot of supporting cast that went into it. I don't want to take all the credit because it wasn't just me that made impacts on the field. A lot of guys are getting overlooked and I couldn't, I wouldn't be in this position, we wouldn't be in this position if it didn't take a collective group of men coming together to be not one humble but also coming together and working as a team for another person's glory at times and also for the team's success overall."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers head coach (On Cam Newton's development at quarterback)
"I've seen his growth and I've been able to see him grow each year. But you really saw it in the 2014 season when he came back after the car accident. You can see him take his game to the next level. And I think that's also when Mike Shula and the offensive coaches really felt that it was time for him to grow. And they really put a lot responsibility on his plate, which he seemed to really appreciate."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers quarterback (on what gives a player an advantage in the Super Bowl):
"In a game like this, it's all about reacting. You could prepare however much you want to. You can watch numerous counts of film. You could do all your research on a team. But in the heat of the moment it's how one player or one person reacts faster or better than the other person."
