Exeter Chiefs qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup after picking up a 33-17 bonus point win over Ospreys, who missed out on a place in the last eight as a result of the defeat.
Ospreys went into their European Rugby Champions Cup game away to Exeter Chiefs knowing that victory would guarantee first place in the final Pool Two standings and a quarter-final place.
Exeter also had a chance of qualifying for the last eight though and they certainly made a positive start to the game, with number eight Thomas Waldrom taking a quick tap after winning a penalty, before helping to drive Kai Horstmann over the Ospreys tryline moments later.
The visitors moved back on level terms in the ninth minute after winger Hanno Dirksen powered his way over from the ten metre line.
But parity lasted less than two minutes - Waldrom scoring Exeter's second try after the visitors' defence once again failed to hold firm on their own tryline.
Biggar trimmed the home side's lead to four points with a 46th minute penalty, only for his team-mate Scott Baldwin to pick up a yellow card three minutes later for a needless late hit on Waldrom.
Exeter made the most of the extra man and just three minutes into Baldwin's time in the sin bin winger James Short took possession from Gareth Steenson's clever chip kick before running almost half the length of the pitch to score.
Short added his second try of the game in the 65th minute before a converted penalty try for Ospreys cut the deficit back to nine points, but man-of-the-match Waldrom capped the try scoring with his second of the game in the 78th minute and Will Hooley's conversion sealed a 33-17 win.
With Bordeaux Begles upsetting Clermont 37-28 in the day's other game in Pool Two, Exeter, Bordeaux and Ospreys all finished on 16 points but it was Exeter who topped the final standings with a superior points difference.
