  • Tributes pour in for the legendary All Blacks winger Jonah Lomu who recently passed away as John Key announced that a public memorial service will take place at Eden Park.

A memorial service was held in South Auckland to remember legendary All Blacks winger Jonah Lomu who tagically passed away at the age of 40.

Former All Blacks doctor John Mayhew, who helped treat Lomu's chronic kidney disease, said a flight-related clot was the most likely explanation for his shock death.

Tributes poured in at the memorial, with the Pacific Island Affairs Minister speaking.

SOUNDBITE (English): Peseta Sam Lotu-iiga, Pacific Island Affairs Minister:

"A father, a husband, a friend an outstanding rugby player and a great New Zealander."

In addition, friends ensured that those present left with a smile as they recounted anecdotes about Lomu.

    SOUNDBITE (English): name unknown:

"He had a pair of reeboks that were too small for his feet so what he did was he cut the front part of the shoe so that his toes would come out the front."

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key also announced that a public memorial service will be held at Auckland's Eden Park stadium on Monday 30th.

And the turnout to remember the national icon is of course expected to be high.
