  • Wasps beat defending champions Toulon 32-6 in the European Rugby Champions Cup on Sunday (22nd November) to consolidate first place in the Pool five standings.

Wasps consolidated first place in the European Rugby Champions Cup Pool 5 standings, after a 32-6 success against Toulon on Sunday.

Frank Halai broke through the statuesque Toulon defensive line in the eighth minute and drove Wasps inside their visitors' 22-yard line. The ball was then moved to the left wing, and Nathan Hughes smashed his way over in the corner to score.

Jackson converted and set Wasps on the attack again moments later with a chip over the Toulon line. The Scottish fly-half added another conversion and Wasps led 14-0.

Having missed an earlier kick at the posts, Toulon's Jonathan Pelissie slotted in his second attempt in the 17th minute.

But the big boot of Elliot Daly restored Wasps' 14-point advantage from just inside their half of the pitch.

The home side's domination continued in the 2nd half. Full back Charles Piutau took possession on his own ten-yard line and evaded a couple of challengers before passing inside to fellow New Zealander Halai, who touched down between the posts to score.

Jackson added the extra points to make it 27-6.

Hughes completed a brace in the 66th minute, after breaking off the back of a rolling maul.

And although Jackson was unable to convert this time, Wasps still emerged victorious, finishing the game with an impressive 32-6 score.
