An excited crowd enjoyed fine weather and top class pre-match entertainment ahead of the medal matches in the final grand slam of the FIVB World Tour.

But the action was over pretty soon in the all-American bronze medal match between Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal against Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser. Gibb pulled up with an injury, and the match was forfeited leaving Rogers and Dalhausser with the medal.

The crowd gave Gibb a warm reception despite his withdrawal.

The gold medal match was a tighter affair.

Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins of Latvia are heroes in their home country after winning bronze at the London Olympics.

Latvia only won two medals - one gold in BMX and the bronze at the beach volleyball.

The Latvian pair took the first set 21-19 against Austria's Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst.

The second set was just as close with Plavins and Smedins just edging the contest 22-20.

It was their first ever world tour gold medal at the last grand slam of the season.
